Li Yusheng (China)

In 1997, Li Yusheng was responsible for the setting up of a diploma degree course at Sichuan Conservatory of Music . This created a new chapter in China’s higher saxophone education.

Li Yusheng was born in Chongqing and graduated from Sichuan Conservatory of Music in 1982. In 1992, he pursued his studies with Paul Brodie at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Canada. In 1996, he was conferred with the diploma of Saxophone Performance with excellent performance and has been a Fellow of the Royal Conservatory of Music since then.

Li Yusheng is an active saxophonist both in China and abroad. He is the organizer of such activities as ; 2004 Yantai-Chengdu International Saxophone Summer Camp, 2005 International Saxophone Summer Camp, Chengdu, China; 2009 “Xiadu” (“Summer Palace”) Saxophone Workshop, Xi’ning, China; “Yamaha” New Continent Saxophone Quartet Concert Tour in South-western China, Saxophone Chamber Orchestra, Modern Musical Instrument School of Sichuan Conservatory of Music—Concert Tour in Chengdu, Chongqing, Shanghai, and Guiyang. In 2006, Li Yusheng took part in the 14th World Saxophone Congress in Ljubljana, Slovenia. In July, 2009, as head of the delegation of Sichuan Conservatory of Music New Continent Saxophone Quartet, Li Yusheng took part in the 15th World Saxophone Congress. At the congress, Li Yusheng gave a world premiere performance of “Floating Backdrop” for saxophone quartet by Yang Xiaozhong. In July, 2010, Li Yusheng was invited by the Southern Oregon State University (USA) to be an instructor at the 10th Siskiyou Saxophone Workshop in Ashland, Oregon.

In 2005, Li Yusheng was featured on the cover of “Saxophone Journal”, volumn 11/12, and in 2008, he was a headline figure in “North American Saxophone Alliance Update”, volume 9/10.

Li Yusheng is now a saxophone professor at Sichuan Conservatory of Music. He is also chairman of Sichuan Saxophone Academy, a Yamaha artist and Vandoren Clinician.
