The 2011 Australian Clarinet and Saxophone Festival Competitions

The 2011 ACSF Clarinet Competition

Age Limit 30 years and under as at 30 May 2011 (non-professional)

Entry Fee $50, or free with four day registration

Entries due Entry (including CD) must be received by 18 June 2011

First Round A quality CD recording of the first movement of Weber’s Concerto No 2 in Eb (may be unaccompanied) AND Andrew Schultz’s Night Birds (click for sample), an unaccompanied work commissioned for this competition.

Second Round Live performance of the two works from the first round with accompaniment. To be held during the Festival at the Faculty of VCA and Music, Southbank Campus.

Final Round A public performance of both works at the Faculty of VCA and Music, Southbank Campus. (ALL movements of Weber required)

The winner will receive $1000


The 2011 ACSF Saxophone Competition

Age Limit 30 years and under as at 30 May 2011 (non-professional)

Entry Fee $50, or free with four day registration

Entries due Entry (including CD) must be received by 18 June 2011

First Round A quality CD recording of the first movement of PM Dubois – Sonatine AND Stuart Greenbaum’s, Night Drive (click for sample) for Solo Saxophone.

Second Round Live performance of the two works from the first round with accompaniment. To be held during the Festival at the Faculty of VCA and Music, Southbank Campus.

Final Round A public performance of both works at the Faculty of VCA and Music, Southbank Campus.

The winner will receive $1000


A copy of the music of the Schultz OR Greenbaum for the open competitions is included in the entry cost for participants who are attending the full festival and will be posted to entrants. Performers who are only entering the competition will need to purchase the appropriate work from Reed Music or your nearest music retailer. Original music is required for the competition.

The 2011 ACSF Under 18 Clarinet Competition

Age Limit 18 years and under as at 30 May 2011

Entry Fee $30, or free with four day registration

Entries due Entry (including CD) must be received by 18 June 2011

First Round A quality CD recording of an unaccompanied work of your own choice of no more than 5 minutes.

Second Round A live performance of the same unaccompanied work from the first round PLUS ONE of the following studies; Cavallini 30 Caprices Nos 23 or 28 (Fischer Ed.) or Rose 40 Etudes (Book 2) Nos 34 or 35. To be held during the Festival at the Faculty of VCA and Music, Southbank Campus.

Final Round A public performance of the same works at the Faculty of VCA and Music, Southbank Campus.

The winner will receive $500


The 2011 ACSF Under 18 Saxophone Competition

Age Limit 18 years and under as at 30 May 2011 (non-professional)

Entry Fee $30, or free with four day registration

Entries due Entry (including CD) must be received by 18 June 2011

First Round A quality CD recording of an unaccompanied work of your own choice of no more than 5 minutes.

Second Round A live performance of the same unaccompanied work from the first round PLUS ONE of the following studies; James Rae 20 Modern Studies Nos 20 or Parisi Forty technical and Melodious Studies Nos 20 or 22 or Cockcroft Capricorn or Aquarius from Zodiac (Reed Music). To be held during the Festival at the Faculty of VCA and Music, Southbank Campus.

Final Round A public performance of both works at the Faculty of VCA and Music, Southbank Campus.

The winner will receive $500

Competitors who reach the second round may be offered the opportunity to play in a Festival Master Class.

Use a high quality CD for best results and ensure your name is on the disc. Please send proof of age and a statement certifying that the CD is unedited with your entry. CD’s will not be returned. Please send entries to:
